Youth Education
YOUTH EDUCATION & ACTIVITIES
I'M AN ORIGINAL CATCHPHRASE
The parish maintains an active education program for its young people. Starting with Sunday School for three year olds and ending with a youth group for high schoolers. Fifth graders receive a course on Communion in preparation for First Communion. Eight and ninth grades attend confirmation classes as well as receiving instruction in Sunday School. Vacation Bible School is also held either by each church or together.
Confirmation Banquet May 1, 2024
Zion Church hosted the confirmation banquet this year for 4 confirmants and their parents. Pastor Birgitte Simpson of Bemidji was the guest speaker. She is pastor at Peoples Church, an indigenous ministry and at another ELCA church. She has two jobs as it's not a parish. She spoke of her path to becoming a pastor. Her road had many ups & downs. First she wanted to become a musician, but failed to get into the school. She went to Augusburg College thinking she would study psychology. That eventually led her to going to seminary as research psychology wasn't her thing. She wanted to work with people. Her message to the confirmants was life's journey will take you down different paths, but God will always be guiding you. Pastor Linda presented each confirmant with a new Bible as they would have worn out the others they've received.
